I'm happy to be returning to the Monk every Wednesday. It's just me and the piano, and hopefully you, for jazz and standards.

The kickoff concert for the 2008/09 Chamber Jazz Series at the Columbus Museum of Art features vocalist Kelly Delaveris, guitarist Derek DiCenzo, flutist Lisa Jelle, and the Mark Flugge trio with drummer Dave Weinstock and bassist Dave DeWitt. Sit back and enjoy a few hours in a Paris bistro as we play the music of Michel Legrand, Claude Debussy, Claude Bolling and many others.

This is the first of six consecutive Thursday evening classes that I'll be teaching for the Jazz Academy.
Compare and contrast various piano styles - from stride and ragtime to boogie woogie, rock and roll and cutting edge – and discuss the historical context in which they were developed and performed. Utilizing technology and live performance, participants will also learn about great American piano players and the songs and ensembles that made them famous.
